Story
The story
Ryan has spent three years saving one million dollars, and he wires every cent to his girlfriend Jessica's parents to buy her a signed agreement severing all ties with them. She has wept in his arms about a family that favors her younger brother and treats her as an ATM, and he believes every word. With the contract signed and the wedding date set, he moves her into a new home whose address no one else knows.
On the eve of the wedding, Jessica vanishes. A call finds her back in her parents' run-down house, asking him to transfer another five hundred thousand as a wedding gift. When he refuses, her father and mother shout lower offers in the background, and she texts that they should call it off. Ryan answers with a single word and cancels the banquet.
Then Jessica appears at his door, kicked out by the parents who found her useless once the money stopped. Six years together, and Ryan must decide whether her tears are real or the same script he has heard far too many times.
