Story

The story

Aria is the president of her university's Art Society, determined to be admired for talent rather than her father's fortune. Her father, Richard Sterling, bought her a grand Beverly Hills mansion, but she found it too ostentatious and left it empty. Then a tacky freshman named Chloe Sterling joins the club, claiming to be the billionaire's only daughter and offering the members a weekend barbecue at her mansion. Aria knows the claim is false, yet she keeps her own identity hidden, wary of being seen as a rich girl buying her way in.

Chloe's lies spread quickly. She even sets her sights on Aria's boyfriend, Ethan, the Student Government president, and coolly tells Aria to step aside for a price. A campus forum poll pits the two against each other, and to Aria's shock, Chloe wins by a wide margin. Aria resolves to expose the fraud at the weekend gathering, but the mansion's gate only recognizes her own face and fingerprint.

Who is Chloe really, and how far will she go to steal a life that was never hers?

Opening excerpt

My dad bought me a massive mansion.

I thought it was way too flashy and would ruin my image as the down-to-earth, minimalist "campus goddess."

So, after visiting it once, I just left it sitting there empty.

A month later, a freshman girl joined our college club.

She claimed the mansion was hers.
