My brother faked his death to cheat me out of my inheritance. When he's reborn, I'll make him regret it.

Alex's first act after being reborn is to pour his best friend's ashes down the drain. In his previous life, he answered a desperate call from Derek, carried him for over two hours to a hospital, and gave blood. There, a dying Derek begged him to raise his one-year-old daughter. Alex agreed. His girlfriend left him, his parents disowned him, and he dropped out of his Master's program to work three jobs. Eighteen years later, at the girl's celebration party, Derek appeared alive, arm-in-arm with Alex's ex-girlfriend, calling it all a test. His adopted daughter threw a drink in his face. Alex collapsed and woke on the very day Derek was beaten by thugs.

Now Derek lies in the dirt, coughing and pleading for help. Alex feigns a twisted ankle and refuses to carry him. At the hospital, Dr. Evans asks him to donate blood, but Alex claims low blood sugar and anemia and refuses. Dr. Evans returns with the news that Derek is dying, and Derek begs Alex to raise his daughter once more. Watching them play good cop, bad cop, Alex feels only disgust. This time, he will not be so foolish.
