My Ex Husband Begs For Scraps

Alice has spent three years as the dutiful wife of Spencer Ashworth, a junior associate at the Harrington Foundation for the Arts, while she works at The Redwood Canning Facility. She bakes his pastries, mutes her sewing machine, and endures the lectures of his mother, who insists she must not drag down a man destined for great things.

After the Foundation's annual gala, Spencer changes. He returns late, smelling of unfamiliar cologne, and is seen holding a car door for Vanessa Harrington, the Councilman's daughter. Then his mother demands Alice step aside so Spencer can rise, and Spencer offers her five hundred dollars to end their marriage, threatening to ruin her name at the factory if she resists.

Alice quits her job and leaves the house behind, taking refuge with her cousin Georgia, who runs a small, struggling organic farm on the edge of town.
