Story
The story
Seven moons into a hard-won pregnancy, Selene keeps to her chambers on healer's orders, her days spent scrolling the pack-net. There she finds a smug she-wolf boasting about the pup another female is carrying for her — a pup she claims will be hers once it is whelped. Then Selene sees the scrying image: it is her own child being flaunted, and the bonding mark on the boasting wolf's intended matches Kael Ironclaw's.
Kael is her mate, the Beta, the wolf who comforted her through five failed heat cycles and howled with joy at the pup's heartbeat. The mark-thread claims he swapped her fertility herbs for suppressants and plans to file for bond rejection once the pup is weaned. When Selene asks for a sire-line verification, Kael refuses — then, after a hushed call behind running water, abruptly agrees.
With no proof but a stranger's words and a moon-rabbit container cooling on her table, Selene must decide how far to trust the wolf she loves.
Opening excerpt
Seven moons along with pup. Confined to my chambers on healer's orders. Anxiety clawing at my chest as I scrolled obsessively through the pack-net mark-threads.
"Should I make my mate try a whelping simulation?"
A reply with captured images caught my eye.
"Definitely! My intended did one and swore he'd never let me endure that alone. But I'm about to become a mother anyway."
Someone challenged her: "If you're not carrying the pup yourself, where's it coming from?"
