After Winning the Lottery, My Family Pestered Me

Reed had been dating Isabel Cobb for two years and planned to marry her, but the first visit to her family changed everything. Her mother, Britney Cobb, demanded a bride price of 288 thousand dollars, then 88 thousand for jewelry and a diamond ring, and 60 thousand for the wedding banquet. Reed agreed to each demand, even though it would leave him in debt. But when Britney insisted that Isabel's brother, Vince Cobb, be given a share of the marriage house, Reed finally refused and called off the wedding.

Isabel had always handed her entire salary to her mother, and Reed had covered all her expenses, believing her family was poor and her mother frail. In truth, Britney was healthy and demanding, and Vince, who was still in school, mocked the phone Reed gave him and wanted a more expensive one. They saw Reed only as a provider for their son.

Six months later, outside Reed's new villa, Britney shouted that if he did not marry Isabel, she would make his life miserable. Reed had walked away once, but the Cobbs were not finished with him.
