The Day Before He Vanished

While organizing the closet, Chloe discovers that her husband Harrison's designer suits are packed into a hidden suitcase, along with a one-way ticket to Europe, documents for liquidating his assets, and plans to vanish under a new identity. That night he brings home a life-sized cardboard cutout of himself and tells her that if he ever disappears, she should not come looking for him. She smiles and agrees, then quietly buys her own plane ticket, departing one day before him.

Harrison keeps up the performance of a devoted husband, cooking breakfast for his assistant Lily, knitting with pink yarn, and making excuses for his absences. Chloe watches him prepare his escape and says nothing, even when Lily arrives at the door asking to be tutored. She knows the man she has shared ten years with is willing to give up everything to run away with Lily, and that he is only easing his own guilt before he goes. Since he wants freedom so badly, she intends to hand it back to him.
