Story

The story

For three years Sarah James has loved Harry Henson, her childhood sweetheart, and trusted her best friend Leonora Simmons with everything. Then, on the day Harry plans to propose, strangers online claim to write from three years in the future, warning her that Harry and Leonora are lovers and that marrying him will cost her her mind and her body.

At the restaurant Harry kneels with a ring, and Leonora presses a glass of wine into her hand. Sarah drinks it anyway, and the night ends in blood, a hospital bed, and Leonora's quiet announcement that she is pregnant. Watching the two of them trade glances, Sarah cuts every tie with Harry for good.

Now she must decide what comes next.

Opening excerpt

Three years into my relationship with Harry Henson, I quietly posted something online:

"I think I want to get married."

What I didn't expect was the flood of comments from people who claimed to be from three years in the future, all of them begging me to stop:

"Are you talking about marrying Harry Henson? Don't. Whatever you do, don't!"

"Sarah James, wake up. Harry's been sleeping with your best friend, Leonora Simmons, for ages."
