Story
The story
In the third year of her imprisonment, a wife discovers an old forum post about young love and realizes it was written by her ten years ago. The boy in that post is now her husband, Damien Blackwood, who has chained her ankles to the bed and left graphic photos of himself with a new actress, Stella, on the floor around her. She swallows the sleeping pills she has hoarded for months and replies to her younger self, warning her not to say yes.
Damien bursts in, has her stomach pumped, and threatens her through a journalist friend. He admits he loves her most, but not only, and she tells him they will never have another child. Then the forum answers back: her past self asks her to prove she is really the woman who spent a decade as Damien's wife.
Her five hundred love letters are ash, her marriage certificate is torn, and the only proof left is a faded tattoo over her fifth rib, matching the one Damien wears over the scar he took for her. She sends the photo, and waits to see whether her younger self will run.
Opening excerpt
In the third year of my imprisonment, I stumbled upon a post on an online forum.
The topic was: [Can young love ever last?]
The original poster wrote about her deskmate, how he got into fights for her, how he brought her breakfast every morning.
How he’d plastered a love letter with her name on it all over the school’s public notice board.
Between the lines, her own budding affection was impossible to miss.
