The story

In the ICU, as Olivia Clark lies critically ill, she dictates her will while her mind is still clear. Her daughter Rachel and son Tyler listen as the lawyer, Mr. Johnson, records her words. Olivia reveals a house in their hometown and $1.48 million in savings, a fortune Rachel never knew existed.

Olivia leaves both the house and the entire savings to Tyler, while Rachel receives only her old jewelry. When Rachel protests that she is her daughter too, Olivia insists Tyler has had it tough and needs the house, while Rachel is sensible and can take care of herself. Mr. Johnson warns that equal inheritance rights could lead to legal disputes, but Olivia refuses to change her decision.

Rachel, who has spent her life seeking her mother's warmth while caring for her in her old age, is left with only her mother's cold gaze. She tells her mother she will not contest the will, then steps into the corridor, her heart full of grievance and confusion.
