The Wife's Pain

Belle is determined to celebrate her birthday with a hike up Wildwood Mountain, despite the relentless rain. Her companion Alex reluctantly agrees, and together with Sabrina they set off, hoping to see rare birds and mountain blooms at their peak. Belle is thrilled when the flowers and a flash of brilliant blue feathers appear, though Sabrina struggles to share her joy, remembering that Alex's father asked him to make Belle's birthday memorable before she returns to London.

As they descend, the storm worsens and the trail turns treacherous. A sudden landslide sweeps Belle down the slope, leaving her unconscious on a narrow ledge. Alex and Sabrina fashion a stretcher and carry her toward camp, but the phone has no signal and the rain will not let up.

Then a second, larger landslide crashes down. Sabrina lunges to pull Alex back from the edge, saving them both—but the mountain is not finished with them yet.
