The Last Paper Star

After a mock exam, the whole class gathers at a karaoke lounge to celebrate. A video appears on Hannah Whitaker's phone, supposedly sent by Mason Blackwell ten years in the future, announcing his marriage to Paige Monroe. Paige then links her arm through his, and the room erupts in laughter when Paige reveals the video was only a joke. Hannah says nothing, because she has truly come back from ten years in the future, where the two of them did marry.

Mason has always been cold and unable to voice his feelings, yet he never missed a birthday or a chance to look after her. In her last life, that video consumed her, she bombed the entrance exams, and her mother died of a sudden heart attack before Hannah could reach home. Given another chance, Hannah chooses to leave them behind and study overseas.

Now she takes the paper star Mason offers, drops it into the glass jar until it is full, and hides the jar away. Then she knocks on her mother's door and insists on a hospital checkup, determined to change the fate she already lived once.
